FRM | Contact Wire Wear Gauge
The contact wire wear gauge FRM has been specially developed for the static point measurement of the contact wire strength and the wear of contact lines. It is particularly suitable for manually determining the following values:
- Diameter of grooved and round contact wires
- Height of flat profile contact wires
- Determination of permissible wear on all standard round and profile contact wires in accordance with EN 50149
Nominal diameter of contact wires AC80 = 10.60 mm, AC100 = 12.00 mm, AC107 = 12.30 mm, AC120 = 13.20 mm, AC150 = 14.80 mm
Wear limit of 20 % of the nominal cross-sectional area is the criterion for replacing the contact wire
Minimum contact wire thicknesses (in accordance with DB Ril 997): Ri 80 = 8.1 mm, Ri/RiS 100 = 9.2 mm, RiS 120/RiM 120 = 10.0 mm
Applications
Manual measurement of contact wire thickness and wear
Description
- Digital thickness gauge
- Measuring range: approx. 17 mm
- Resolution: 0.01 mm
- Presetting of target thicknesses (comparative measurements to target value)
- Ergonomic handle, one-handed operation
- Quick and easy testing thanks to lifting lever and LCD display
- Rotatable display element
- Support / stop can be moved to adapt to the contact wire cross-section
The railroad infrastructure companies, transport companies and operators ensure the operational safety of the overhead contact line systems of electric railroads through inspection, maintenance and servicing.
As the reduction in the contact wire cross-section reduces the current carrying capacity and the permissible tractive force, wear must be limited by measuring the contact wire thickness at cyclical intervals.
The inspection intervals for functional tests in the area of condition monitoring are between one and several years and are specified in the BOStrab for streetcars and in the Deutsche Bahn Group guideline Ril 997 “Maintenance measures for overhead line technology”.
The manually performed contact wire thickness measurements are carried out by maintenance personnel in local traffic (DC) at support points and also at points with locally increased wear, such as impact clamps, from an insulated aerial work platform. On DB lines, this work is carried out from the TVT when the overhead contact line (AC) is de-energized and earthed. To ensure safe working, the relevant accident prevention regulations for electrical installations of the DGUV, BG regulations, as well as rules and standards according to DIN VDE, BOStrab and EBO must be observed.
